On the morning of 26 August, a glacier collapse on the Tibetan side triggered a violent flood that swept away settlements and infrastructure in the Nepalese district of Rasuwa - on the border with Tibet - and in the areas downstream.The avalanche of snow and rock blocked the Bhote Koshi River, triggering a devastating disaster: the raging river burst its banks with destructive force, wiping out entire villages and sweeping away roads, bridges and buildings. Hundreds have died, whilst thousands are missing or injured.
We have been working in Rasuwa since 2015, when an earthquake devastated the entire district. We know these communities, their stories and their struggles. Our team is on the ground to assess needs and organise an urgent initial humanitarian response.
Displaced families have lost everything. They need tents, food and cooking kits - immediately.
No one is left to fend for themselves.
